“Tuca & Bertie” Finds It’s “Bertie”

Netflix subs know this one all too well.

We’ve known for a couple months now of who would be voicing the role of “Tuca” in the upcoming Netflix animated comedy from the producers of BoJack Horseman known as Tuca & Bertie for quite some time now. But, what about the voice of “Bertie”? Well…now we know.

Stand Up comedy star Ali Wong has been tapped as the voice of “Bertie”.

The series will star Tiffany Haddish (Legends of Chamberlain Heights) as the voice of Tuca, a cocky, care-free toucan, and Bertie (Wong), an anxious, daydreaming songbird. Both are 30-something year-old bird-women pals who live in the same apartment building.

Haddish, Wong, and creator Lisa Hanawalt executive produce Tuca & Bertie with BoJack Horseman producers Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright, and Steven A. Cohen. ShadowMachine is producing the animation.

Our Take

For my money, Ali Wong is Netflix’s first comedy star, in that, Netflix is responsible for her rise to fame. Chelsea Handler put her on the map, but Netflix turned Ali into a star, especially with the standup special Ali Wong: Baby Cobra which featured a very pregnant Ali Wong do an hour-long special. Ali should make a strong personality opposite Haddish.
