“The Simpsons” Told Us That The Stanley Cup Would Be In Las Vegas

Maybe these people should be playing the lottery more?

The Las Vegas Golden Knights’ Cinderella first season should dispel any notion that if you expand leagues with new franchises that it dilutes the talent pool and it makes weaker teams, as the team gets ready to take on Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals starting tomorrow @ 830 pm ET/PT only on NBC for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But maybe someone knew that already?

You may remember the Emmy-nominated episode of The Simpsons entitled ‘Viva Ned Flanders’ where Homer takes Ned to Vegas written by Ugly Americans creator David M. Stern. Well an eagle-eyed NHL columnist made sure to point out a scene that saw the Stanley Cup placed in the background in the episode that revolved around Homer trying to help Ned live a little and it saw the two head to Vegas where the duo got married and was subsequently ran out of town by the locals.

The showrunner at the time, Mike Scully, should be noted as a die-hard hockey fan, and regularly attends LA Kings games when he’s not making television. Check out the screen cap below and judge for yourself, did The Simpsons predict the Stanley Cup being in Vegas?
