Review: DuckTales “McMystery at McDuck McManor!“

Was this episode the “Life of the Party”?

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

When Scrooge unexpectedly disappears during his unwanted costume-themed birthday party he wanted no part of. Huey, Dewey, and Louie find themselves hosting a mystery party where everyone is a possible suspect.

Our Take

While most of the key-characters such as Mrs. Beakley, Webby, Donald, and Launchpad are gone during the proceedings, the episode shines the most with the three duckling brothers Huey, Dewey and Louie making a legit effort to throw a party despite Scrooge not being particularly fond of them in general due to the loss of his longtime friend and Butler “Duckworth” which at least answers the question of whatever happened to him given that Duckworth was part of the classic series during the 80’s.

I think where I had a good laugh the most was when Dewey dressed as an obvious parody to Daft Punk with the gimmicky bells & whistles you’d expect Daft Punk to have. Also, While Huey’s actions seem well-intentioned, The story starts to pick up when Scrooge ends up being missing during a Birthday magician display with an obvious Chris Angel parody character.

Despite the costumes each character is wearing, many of the guests who turn out to be suspects were people that were pretty damn obvious from the start, each with a valid motive against Scrooge in some form or another. But the twist itself, Impressed me beyond measure as it’s tied with them casting the respectable and acclaimed voice actor David Kaye (Megatron from “Beast Wars: Transformers” and Logan Carter from the “Dead Island” video game franchise) to be a recurring character near the end of the episode and his performance alone stole the show for me.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this one, the twist at the end brought a huge smile on my face and I hope to hear more of David Kaye’s voice in future episodes. 🙂
