Normally, one of my other writers likes to kick off his reviews with “immediately picking up where the last episode left off” and it drives me nuts. However, in this case, Rick and Morty #32 kicks off immediately after the season one episode of Rick and Morty entitled  “Raising Gazorpazorp” except we follow Summer.

The premise of the issue is like a 21st-century take on Herbie the Love Bug crossed with every romantic comedy you’ve ever seen, but it totally works. Just like any young couple, Summer’s new relationship has its hardships and challenges and, in this case, ends in a complete and total wreck.

But the sentiment is there, and what we get is actually one of the most complete Rick and Morty stories ever told regardless of format. As a matter of fact, if they wanted to rename all of the Rick and Morty comics series “Summer and sometimes Rick”, I’d be ok with it, because for whatever reasons she’s the strongest character in print. My one gripe with the issue was some of Rick’s dialogue at the end of the issue, but really Pamela Ribon’s written execution on this story was out of bounds good and is required reading for even the most casual of Rick and Morty fans.

Maybe Lee Hardcastle can start producing the really good Rick and Morty comics stories into “Non-Canonical Adventures” because boy, would I trade in any amount of the overrated Szechuan sauce to hear Spencer Grammer on this one.
