Cinesite Studios acquires Nitrogen Studios

The studio behind Sausage Party has new owners.

Cinesite Studios announced its acquisition of Canadian animation-centric Nitrogen Studios. The Vancouver-based Nitrogen Studios specializes in animated films and shows. Notable Nitrogen produced works include the raunchy adult comedy Sausage Party, kids series Thomas & Friends, and Trollhunters. Cinesite’s deal became official on March 1, 2017.

The Nitrogen Studios acquisition follows another major addition to Cinesite after a July 2015 Image Engine. Already Cinesite has plans for collaborative content. Trollhunters season 2 is in the works as is the feature film Arkie which follows the Nathan Jurevicius character. There’s also a Riverdance feature poised to spawn from Cinesite.

By acquiring Nitrogen Studios and Image Engine, Cinesite is slated to produce a range of content. Not only does Nitrogen Studios bolster Cinesite’s video lineup, but Image Engine ensures there’s even an in-house animation engine. Rather than attempting to compete Nitrogen, Cinesite merely adds this creative team and its content, further creating an animation powerhouse.
