Review: Mickey Mouse “Duck The Halls”

Let’s duck this joint.

Spoilers Below

It is Christmas time once again and Mickey and the gang are getting ready to celebrate. But Donald has never experienced Christmas. As a duck, he and Daisy have to go south for the winter. They miss Christmas ever year. Well, this year, Donald decides to stay with Mickey in order to have Christmas. Daisy wants nothing to do with this and goes south with the rest of the ducks. While she’s down there, she learns from Professor Ludwig von Drake that ducks can’t survive in the cold climate. Donald will die if he gets too cold.

As Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto take Donald around town to do everything from caroling to snowball fights, the duck keeps getting sicker and sicker. Until finally, on Christmas Eve, Donald goes crazy. He overhears Mickey planning to take him south and he leaps out the window. Donald runs around town, collecting wreaths and hugging Christmas trees until he passes out in a cradle inside a barn. The group takes Donald home to try to figure out how to get him south. That is when Santa appears. Well, nearly appears. The jolly old elf is stuck in the chimney. So Mickey and the gang hijacks Santa’s sleigh and flies Donald back to his family. After they crash Santa’s sleigh, the elf catches up with them. He was angry, at first, but then he tells all of the ducks that they, too, can celebrate Christmas. It isn’t just for those in the snow.

Poor Donald. All he wanted was to experience Christmas and he almost dies. Thankfully, he has amazing friends that not only want to share Christmas with him but they are loving enough to pretty much ruin their own Christmas in order to take him where he belongs. This just goes to show that, no matter how much they may fight, Mickey and Donald really are the best of friends. Also, it was awesome to see Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Ludwig all together in one place. A duck family reunion!
