Review: Regular Show “Fries Night”

I want some fries.

Spoilers Below

Benson breaks up with Pam and opts for French fries as his break up food of choice after numerous wings fail to still his beating heart. Turns out, in outer space, food trucks are still hear except they somehow float in space. One in particular, named Roxy’s, is well-known for having the best fries in the galaxy. Benson makes a fair attempt to get said fries, but is destroyed by oncoming traffic. Fortunately, Benson wakes up in Roxy’s truck, only to find out she’s all out of fries. At first, Benson is super bummed out, but Roxy opts to take him with her on a run for new supplies. The journey takes the duo to numerous planets that sees the two become more than just temporary co-workers which inspires Roxy to make the first move with a kiss to Benson. Still mind-fucked by what went down with Pam, Benson thwarts Roxy’s advances causing her to flip out and run away. Benson chases Roxy through an asteroid field, but ends up nearly destroying both himself AND the truck. Roxy makes the save, the two make amends over French fries, and now we might have the start of a new relationship to talk about.

Our Take

An interesting new arc potentially develops this early in the “in Space” saga, one that could potentially have repercussions later on. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there, but the writers of Regular Show have mastered the art of the ‘We need to get this type of food’ trope, but this time they added some sass with a Kate Micucci-led love story. Kate has definitely been developing into one of the more prominent voice actors in the last couple of years with recurring roles in Steven Universe and the Scooby-Doo franchise and I think she’ll be a great fit for the rest of Regular Show’s run, but will other characters start to have similar fall outs like Benson? Will Benson revert to wanting to go back to Earth? How the hell does a floating rock have a relationship? These are all interesting ideas that I hope we see fleshed out in future episodes.
