Season Review: ‘The Simpsons’ Season 27

Do The Simpsons have anything left?

The Simpsons is an interesting show to cover and one of the more polarizing in terms of fan bases. You’ve got your life-long fans that watch The Simpsons no matter what, you’ve got your fair-weather fans that swear that this show isn’t good anymore and maybe check in every once in a while, and then you’ve got the Parents Television Council-esque types that hate this show with a passion, but watch it so that they can uncover shit to send over to the FCC.

The thing that impresses ME most about The Simpsons is just how socially relevant the series is. It’s the couch gags, it’s the guest stars, and its the news-worthy moments that the producers seem to come up with every season. Last year, it was the cross-overs with Futurama and Family Guy. This year, it was The Simpsons having a live episode, the first for an animated comedy.

That said, this season seemed to take a step back having lost one full point from Season 26 and that’s from the nuts and bolts of the show. Rehashed story lines, shitty scheduling, and lack of marketing support continue to see this show’s ratings decline. Even with cuts in production, eventually something’s gotta give and The Simpsons need to turn it around in the quality department so that we can get to Season 30 relatively unscathed.
