Shorts Review: RWBY Chibi Episode 1

Since this was a 3 min and 37 second video, there really isn’t a lot to touch upon or really spoil other than the chibi art style moves with a lot of fluidity and blur-motions in places and is simply a series of short random comedy bits with the four main Rwby characters which I’m sure is greatly needed after Vol.3 went “Game of Thrones” on our asses.

“Ruby Makes Cookies”

The first short for episode 1 is simply Ruby Rose trying to make chocolate chips from scratch and to make it even funnier, she’s cartoonishly failing hard.

Out of curiosity and frustration, she even starts to eat the chocolate chips from the bag instead. (I’ve been guilty of this from time to time. 😛 )

But long after making the chips she ends up having the same problem we often have where the cookie ends up being bigger than the glass of milk in terms of circumference. 😛

Even though Ruby baking cookies was really funny, come on, she can’t crack an egg or dislodge a stuck spoon but she can carry and swing a gigantic scythe? I know it’s all supposed to be for laughs but I still have some disbelief I can’t suspend.

“Party Games”

The 2nd short has Weiss trying to pin a tail on a Donkey blindfolded by launching herself into the image and being told by Ruby that she missed.

“Weiss and Yang Training”

We cut to another short called where they have a Sparring match and realizes she doesn’t have bullets in her gun-gauntlet’s and just ends up straight up socking her one.

“Ninjas of Love”

And we cut the second-longest short with Ruby again as she goes into her dorm to find Blake’s Titular Romance novel on her bunk-bed.

She becomes curious at first before becoming enthralled by the story to find a “Centerfold” (Wait, a Centerfold poster in a Novel? WTF?)

Ruby then proceeds to make a subtle sex-pun with the words “Now that’s a Katana!” (Get it?)

The video later inter-cuts back to Blake discovering her “Ninja’s of Love” romance novel missing and she confronts Ruby about it.

In response, she shames it by saying “This is Filth. FILTH!” And then proceeds to cartoonishly bitch slap her with said book saying she’ll return it later. 😛

The credits have a lighthearted “RWBY Chibi” theme song by Rooster Teeth regular Casey Lee Williams. 🙂

Best Sketch: Ninja’s of Love.

Worst Sketch: Party games.
