Review: Steven Universe – “Gem Drill”

We drill last night’s episode of Steven Universe.

Spoilers Below

Immediately picking up where “Super Watermelon Island” left off, Steven wakes up from his astral projection to rejoin Peridot. The two of them need to drill into the earth to stop the Cluster from forming. As they drill, they come upon fragments of gems, searching for gems to make them whole. When they finally reach the Cluster, Steven has doubts about their plan to destroy it. He begins feeling sick, though he’s not sure why. Eventually, he passes out, resulting in another astral projection. This time, he talks to the Cluster itself. It turns out that the Cluster doesn’t want to form; it just wants to be with other fragments. Steven introduces the fragments to each other and the Cluster realizes it already has other gems with it. In order to stop the forming, though, each piece has to be bubbled. Steven can’t do it by himself so each fragments starts bubbling each other. Together, they manage to bubble to entire Cluster. The Earth is saved again.

This episode was much more interesting than the first. My only complaint is that it seemed that they wrapped up this Cluster storyline rather quickly. I’m hoping that they will bring the Cluster back as a friend of the established Gems. That would be interesting.
