Review: Camp WWE “Survival Weekend”

Oh good, no Mark Burnett.

Spoilers Below

Sgt. Slaughter’s taking Steve Austin, Undertaker, Big Show, John Cena, and Paige join Slaughter for ‘Survival Weekend’. A second features a team with Stephanie as leader with R-Truth and the twins.  HHH is getting the Rock, Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose, and finally a third team with Ric Flair, Mark Henry, and a blow up doll are all headed to survival weekend.

It isn’t long before Undertaker is separated from the group, but the kids and Slaughter opt to go forth and have a weekend that ends in shambles. This leads Slaughter in a leading effort to get the Deadman back…by himself, but he gets tripped up by Jake the Snake Roberts and is now missing. Slaughter’s kids go on after him to get him back and run into Slaughter whom is now being kept hostage by Jake the Snake. Fortunately, the Undertaker shows up, but it’s a yell from Vince that scares away the wolves.

To battle the nature-controlling Jake, Paige and the kids break out some of the Slaughter hacks they’ve learned and are able to save their camp counselor with an escape.

Meanwhile, Vince is loving the fact that he doesn’t have the kids for a weekend and decides to get revenge on each and every one of them. Trouble ensues when he attempts to mess with the structural integrity of the Bellas’ bunk beds, only for the beds to fall on top of Vince. After Vince’s yell, a team of wolves show up and save him, and then piss all over the floor of the cabin before they leave.

Our Take

So, Paige goes from never-being-seen to the star of the A-plot, which is fine with me, because she’s now the funniest chick in the show. Her accent mixed with her snarky comments are pretty-damn funny, and she serves as a way better complement to the boys than the Bella twins do. Other characters are slowly starting to speak up a bit too as this was the first week we’ve heard anything from Mark Henry, Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose.

And while the Jake the Snake cameo was very good, it was Vince McMahon whom continues to steal the show. I’m not sure if I would’ve kept up him being trapped under the bed for what seemed like three whole scenes, but the wolves showing up on his command was pretty nuts.

Speaking of nuts, we got to spend a heck of a lot of time with the Undertaker this episode, which is great because he was my favorite growing up. His scenes being wrapped up in nature were great, and for my money was a great pseudo-parody of Avatar.

Overall, a very solid episode of Camp WWE. The show is getting good, even if it’s characters’ appearances in the show are about as consistent as a middle-relief pitcher’s in baseball.
