Review: Adventure Time “Five Short Tables” (S7Ep35)

Tonight’s new Adventure Time, “Five Short Tables” was another Fionna and Cake episode– which of course means more Ice King fan fiction.

Spoilers Below

“Five Short Tables” is a series of short stories, each centered around a table (or something, apparently). We have a flour demon, a story with Marshall Lee and Lumpy Space PRINCE (bad mustache and all), plus Ice Queen— and Cake uses Fionna’s help to capture all of the land’s residents in pancake form.

When watching Adventure Time, I often try to imagine myself as a young child watching it. There was a small glittery anime-style segment– some of this stuff all just seems like weird for the sake of weird. Maybe I need to think of all of this in an even more whimsical manner. Sometimes, I just find myself being increasingly frustrated with the insane, nonsensical aspects of these episodes.

I loved “Beyond the Grotto” this season– I still hold everything up to it as a gem amongst some other failed tries– even the stop-motion episode was pretty cool.

I actually had high hopes for this episode. Even the writing of an episode, if funny, could redeem it to an amazing thing. There were some colorful spots tonight. The library scene ALMOST got a laugh out of me. But where is more of that weird AdTi humor? (Where is Lemongrab when you need him?!?)

I feel like this week’s episode kinda missed the mark. But hopefully the kids enjoyed it. Also, I hope Fire Prince finally got to pee.
