Review: Adventure Time “Elemental” (S7Ep34)

Tonight’s new Adventure Time, titled “Elemental” was really interesting in several ways.

The episode begins with Finn and Jake trying to figure out why all the coat hangers from Bubblegum’s kingdom are disappearing. Of course, the answer involves Ice King. We get to see some more of Ice King’s powers, and we meet an ice elemental who has been frozen underground for quite some time.

The elemental freezes Finn and Jake, and tells Ice King to round up princesses. And that’s what Ice King used to be all about! But Ice King is reluctant at first to do it..  since he’s changed his ways recently. That is, until the elemental convinces him she will be his girlfriend. You really feel bad for Ice King in this one, he has made such significant changes for the better but just goes right back to his old ways. Like a reformed criminal picking up their old life.

Once Ice King kidnaps Bubblegum, Fire princess and Slime princess, the elemental explains to all of them that years ago, she knew them, as males, and they embodied the four elements of the world– fire, ice, candy, and slime. Really funny. You get to see the apocalypse that destroyed what was before Ooo. The elemental knew about it and tried to warn everyone, but nobody listened.

Also, there are some interesting hints that nobody keeps time anymore, or knows the age of anything.

I was dreading this one because it was Ice King-heavy, but it turned out to be not too bad, and showed a lot of Ooo’s history. At the end, the elemental is once again subdued– Ice King didn’t want his princesses fighting.

Not a bad Adventure Time this week.
