Review: Pickle and Peanut “Bee Colony / Pet Psychic”

PICKLE AND PEANUT LOGO

Spoilers Below

“Bee Colony

Pickle’s leaving to go on a trip, so he introduces Peanut to his friend…a fuck ton of bees that he has to watch. Too bad for Pickle he gets easily distracted and forgets to feed the bees. After trying a shortcut, Peanut’s driven outside of his house. Instead of listening to Pickle’s instructions, Peanut drags the bees to the mart where he lets them loose on the store thereby causing the ambulance to show up and save someone who was stung. Mjart throws the bees in the garbage where Peanut grabs them and drives off. The bees get loose in the car and go nuts causing Peanut to crash into a hospital causing the bees to go ballistic on babies and a bunch of others. Champion Horse isn’t any help so Peanut resorts to using Pickle’s instructions to inspire the bees to be set back to normal JUST before they are exterminated. Lucky enough, the Queen is saved and is able to repopulate Pickle’s collection.

Our Take

Pickle and Peanut make a triumphant 2016 return the way they left…completely non-sensical. Fortunately, that’s the point here, but we also get the important lesson of not lying to your friends and staying the HELL away from bees because bees are scary.

 Pet Psychic”

Pickle’s losing sleep over barking dogs next door so he heads to a pet psychic and buys some shit to drink guaranteed to put him out. Come to find out, the juice gives him psychic powers that causes him to find out why the dog was really barking. Turns out, the dog wanted to be freed from his shitty confines. Peanut doesn’t believe him and decides to send him home to get some sleep. It isn’t long before Pickle comes across some mean stray dogs looking to make a mess at the local dog show. Pickle decides to go back to the store that sold him the potion from before, but then the mean dogs make their play on Peanut and the dog show. If Pickle tries to make a save, then Peanut’s dead! Pickle decides to get into a dog show undercover. Fortunately, Pickle finds the dogs and talks some sense to them, but we find out that the dogs had different plans all along, and they just wanted some food. Pickle and Peanut make the save with the power of belly rubs. The guys save the day…but at what cost?

Our Take

Ahead of HBO’s Animals, here we get to see the dark side of what it’s like to being the man’s best friend perhaps swiped with the movie Heat at the end. The direction on the slow-mos scenes featuring the dog driving away in the van were perfect, and therefore, helped make this the WAY funnier of the two halves. This is definitely one of those episodes you question and say, “what the fuck did I just watch?”.
