Comics Review: Regular Show #30

RegularShow_030_A_Main-932x1432

Regular Show Comics turns 30 and now I feel old. But, over the course of the 30 issues the comic has grown into a respectable brand in not just TV and games, but print as well.

This month we continue a fascinating trek into a crystal world with Rigby getting locked up after he insults the king. Because of his lock up, Rigby is now sentenced to death in a gladiator arena where he will have to survive against a bunch of crystal monsters. Unfortunately, Skips has bigger fish to fry with a former foe.

In “Tough Guy”, Rigby buys a t-shirt that turns him into almost like a werewolf and he terrorizes the park. Skips hits him with a bucket of water, and Rigby goes back to being a not-so-tough guy.

Our Take

This month’s issue was excellent. I’m really enjoying the crystal world and how it’s playing out, and now the plot thickens when we learn that Benson is considered part of the world’s civilization. A few epic battles await us, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how they play out. The artwork was marvelous, too. Unique character designs for the local folk, and there’s a bad-ass close up shot of Benson that showcased excellent shading techniques and great attention to detail.

“Tough Guy” was alright, but with a main plot that is already about how Rigby playing too many video games can screw things up, to see us kick off with that same concept I thought was rather unoriginal. In any case, a great issue that you should check out.
