ABC Close on ‘Imaginary Gary’

With the announcement of FOX’s pick up of Son of Zorn yesterday, Deadline.com had also noted that ABC’s own live-action/animated hybrid is pretty close to a pickup.

For those that don’t recall, early last month we told you guys that Imaginary Gary, a CGI animated/live-action comedy series from the producers of The Goldbergs and Disney animator Patrick Osborne, was being developed, and despite the fact that we only first heard about it in early October, it looks like things could be on the move rather quickly for a potential pickup.

Imaginary Gary centers on a thirty-something bachelor whose life is turned upside-down when he finally meets the love of his life — a divorced working mom with three kids. This triggers even more upheaval when the slightly unhinged imaginary friend he created as an only child suddenly reappears in his life to help him navigate the transition from single guy to family man.

Suffice it to say, the networks are treating this genre like a gold rush, and with ABC you’re getting a different take. With FOX you are obviously getting edgier fare with Son of Zorn, while Imaginary Gary with influences from Disney, will certainly be a good family show.

The question will soon be, which is the highest-rated?
