Shorts Review: Descendants: Wicked World – “Lamp Sweet Lamp”

When we last saw Mal, Evie, Audrey, and Ben, they were stuck on the Isle of the Lost. We were also introduced to Freddie, daughter of Dr. Facilier.

In this episode, Freddie insults Audrey and Ben for being too good. Audrey tries to prove her “badness” by telling Freddie she won’t invite the girl to her next party. Lame! Seeing the lameness, Mal and Evie take a little walk down memory lane by having another one of their old “Your Mama” battles. Ben tries to up the rottenness ante by dropping a ceramic mug, shattering it. Unfortunately, he follows it up with trying to clean up the mess while Audrey tires to put it back together. Yeah, not rotten at all. Mal thinks that watching the two Auradon kids try to be bad is worse than any punishment Maleficient could give. Unbeknownst to everyone else, someone else is in the shop. A shadow appears near a curtain behind Freddie. Freddie tells the other person to stay hidden. At this point, Mal tries to figure out how they got to the Isle. She remembers trying to rub paint off Jordan’s lamp just before they poofed. Mal wishes she could ask Jordan what happened…and they all poof again. This time, Freddie is poofed with them. Jordan is recording a video showing how to make lemonade when the entire gang appears inside her lamp.

While it was semi-interesting seeing the Auradon kids try to be bad, this episode was mostly useless. Sure, we got a hint about another character but he/she won’t appear for quite awhile since everyone was poofed back to Auradon. And, sure, Mal will get her answer about what happened but I’m not sure why she couldn’t figure it out herself. I mean, she has to know that Jordan is Genie’s daughter, right? Everyone’s parentage seems to be common knowledge in Auradon. So even if Mal didn’t know, surely Ben or Audrey would. I wish the gang stayed on the Isle of the Lost. Maybe the story can still be saved.
