Paul Scheer joins Vine Original Series “White Ninja”

Hot off his recent casting for Hell and Back which is in theaters now, Paul Scheer is top-lining a new animated series to premiere exclusively on Vine later this year. The series is called White Ninja, and it’s inspired by the Cracked.com web series of the same name. According to Tubefilter:

White Ninja’s voice cast also includes Kathleen Barr (Ed, Edd n’ Eddy), Shannon Chan-Kent (Littlest Pet Shop, My Little Pony), Brian Drummond (Inspector Gadget, DragonBallZ), and David A. Kaye (Make Way for Noddy, X-Men Evolution).

Six Vine stars have also joined the White Ninja project as directors. Brandon Bowen, Jon Paul Piques (aka Piques), Gabe Erwin, Esa Fung (Esa Fungtastic), Gregor Reynolds (GregorR), and Stewart Reynolds (Brittlestar) will each have the opportunity to direct a chunk of episodes forWhite Ninja. Vancouver-based production companies North of Now and Whiskaye Films will produce the Vine-based series, with North’s Tyler Funk helming as creator and showrunner and award-winning artist Erick Grigorovski taking on the lead animator role.

I think it would be legit as hell if this series helped spawn a whole new generation of Vine cartoons. The short-video service has taken sort of a back seat in the last year in terms of being a platform with burgeoning content thanks to platforms like Periscope and Instagram, original content would be a key differentiator in getting more unique audiences. Ever sit on a website that’s waiting for a bunch of Vines to load? It’s tough.

White Ninjas is set to stream December 5th, and you can check out a trailer below:
