Trailer Breakdown: Bordertown

Seth MacFarlane is trying to rebuild his cartoon empire on FOX. At one time, the producer had three animated shows on the lineup including Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad! With Bordertown, Seth is hoping for another hit and to rebuild some of those early creative juices that Fuzzy Door Productions was known for.

Judging from the first trailer, Bordertown could be just that. As a result, we decided to break it down to see if we can uncover any new details about the show.

BORDERTOWN is a new animated comedy about two families living in a Southwest desert town on the U.S. – Mexico border that takes a satirical look at the cultural shifts occurring in America, where the U.S. Census forecasts that by 2017, Caucasians will be a minority. Set against this increasingly diverse backdrop, the series explores family, politics and everything in between with a cross-cultural wink.

After watching the first trailer, I can’t help but think that Bordertown leans more towards the type of show that Family Guy is and less towards MacFarlane’s other series like American Dad! or The Cleveland Show. However, I think we can thank the latter for sowing some of the seeds that Bordertown plans to sow in terms of the show’s overlying plot and some of the challenges that comes from living in a mixed-racial family, even if by marriage.

Unlike MacFarlane’s other animated shows, Bordertown takes place in the South-Western United States. As a result, don’t expect any sort of plots having to do with snow, skiing, the cold, none of that. Instead, our setting is a hot one, and rife with controversy as Mr. Donald Trump can attest to.

background

Like every animated series on FOX, Bud is constantly trying to save face with his wife and still stick to his roots in terms of political and social beliefs. This is a window that he jumps out of a window in an attempt to avoid having sex with his wife, Janice.

Bordertown is set to premiere next year on FOX.
