Springfield Map

The biggest debate in the 26-year history of The Simpsons (aside from when exactly the quality first dipped) deals with the geography of the town of Springfield. We all know by now that there’s no specific Springfield, and instead it’s meant to represent a kind of Anytown, USA (despite most of the evidence pointing to it being in Oregon) which is slightly altered based on the needs of each episode and its corresponding jokes. Regardless, the town is chock-full-o’ landmarks, and some enterprising folks decided to map it all in as much detail as possible. Below are a few examples.

The most impressive? Terry Hogan (Hulk, is that you?) and Jerry Lerma’s fascinatingly complex interactive version, which can be seen here.

Also, PlayGIS created a map based on The Simpsons: Tapped Out game, and if you’re looking for a realistic version, this is the one.

Designer Matt De Lanoy built a LEGO replica of Springfield, which can be viewed at Brickworld Chicago from June 17th – 21st. It’s worth mentioning that De Lanoy also made a model of Futurama‘s New New York.

I actually made one myself, albeit accidentally. As a kid, I put a tooth in some Buzz Cola for a science experiment, and a whole mini town of Springfield was created within the confines of the container. It got pretty weird though when they started worshipping me and tried to shrink me down to be their permanent ruler – so I stomped it.
