The 10 Best ‘Simpsons’ News File Photos

Eye on Springfield

The Simpsons is done for the year, but that doesn’t mean we won’t still have news about the show. And speaking of news, to celebrate the end of another successful year, let’s look back at all the times Springfield’s local news station featured Homer (or another character) in a story…and posted an unfortunate file photo.

1) “Homer and Marge Turn a Couple Play” – Season 17, Episode 22

FP S17E22

Most notable because of it’s nod to Michelangelo’s “Pietà.”

2) “The Great Louse Detective” – Season 14, Episode 6

FP S14E6

I’m pretty sure The Simpsons is the reason that I shake my fist at people & things (or pants-stealing gorillas) when I’m angry.

3) “Hungry, Hungry Homer” – Season 12, Episode 15

FP S12E15

Kent Brockman: “So are you calling Homer Simpson…a liar?”

Howard K. Duff VIII: “Well, we have obtained this footage of him with his pants on fire.”

(Okay, so it’s not a photo, but “file footage” is close enough for me to risk my cartoon journalist credibility.)

4) “HOMR” – Season 12, Episode 9

FP S12E9

“The firm declared super-duper bankruptcy, which is terrible news for the company’s only stockholder, Homer Simpson.”

5) “A Tale of Two Springfields” – Season 12, Episode 2

FP S12E2

Not just any file photo, but a spoof of an old photo of The Who!

6) “Treehouse of Horror IX” – Season 10, Episode 4

FP S10E4

Where the hell was this taken? Moe’s backyard?

7) “Simpson Tide” – Season 9, Episode 19

FP S9E19

Kent Brockman: “Well sir, treason season started early this year, as a nuclear sub was hijacked by local man Homer Simpson.”

Marge: “Oh my god!”

Lisa: “I told him that photo would come back to haunt him.”

8) “The Springfield Files” – Season 8, Episode 10

FP S8E10

Just the kind of guy that would submit videotape of a so-called “alien.”

9) “Bart the Fink” – Season 7, Episode 15

FP S7E15

That time Krusty wasn’t totally innocent.

10) “Marge vs. the Monorail” – Season 4, Episode 12

FP S4E12

The one that started it all! Ladies & gentlemen: your monorail conductor.
