IT’S A COLORFUL LIFE

This week, Sashi, Penn, and Boone travel to Huetown which features the warring factions of the Drabs and the Hues. Really, they are characters that look exactly like each other except for the fact that Huetown and its citizens are in color and the Drabs aren’t. Naturally, Rippen and Larry align themselves with the Drabs and blow up the mountain that keeps Huetown colorful. The mountain houses color rocks that are spread throughout the land, leaving Penn and crew to try and find them. Unfortunately, Rippen gets to them first and throws them down a volcano, but Penn is able to the rally both the Hues and the Drabs behind him to save the rocks and set everything back to color.

Our Take

In terms of guest voices, this episode of Penn Zero is one of the best. Pam Adlon (Louie) does a fantastic job of playing the Drab Lieutenant and the brilliant Harland Williams (Half-Baked) does the same for the Hue Helper. Both offered up performances that didn’t want you to root for either team, so you couldn’t help but root for both. The actual confrontation between PZ and Rippen seemed rather short, and I would’ve liked to have seen more of Larry and his fox, but overall a solid episode that shouldn’t disappoint.

LARRY MANOR

In an interesting turn of events, the power goes down on the block that features both Phil and Phyllis’ portals so that means there are no missions happening. Larry invites the PZ crew and Rippen back to his place for a snack. Eventually the power does come back on for Phil and Phyllis which sees the two do battle in a universe where they both ride dragons and Phyllis comes out on top as the victor.

Meanwhile, we come to find out that Larry is rich as Hell, and we are introduced to his pigmy elephant Tony, along with his butler Matthews and her butler Fredericks. Soon, Tony goes missing and Larry holds a contest where the first group to find him wins a $25 gift card to his souvenir stand. Rippen finds him with some help from Penn after we learn that Fredericks was trying to frame Matthews so as to gain a promotion. He comes clean and gets one anyway, while Rippen wins the gift card and cashes in on a mess of Larry merch.

Our Take

I love the episodes of PZ that are just completely different. This week was just that as we come to learn that Larry is hilariously wealthy, and that there really is some sort of feud between Phyllis and Phil. I actually hope we can learn more about that feud and why it’s a thing because they seem rather cordial despite the fact that they are trying to end each other. We also get another episode with strong guest performances featuring Maria Bamford and Maurice LaMarche as the respected butlers. However, Rippen’s glee at the end as a result of winning all of the ridiculous looking Larry merch had me laughing a lot, and it should do the same for you.
