Vampire Hunter D is Making A Comeback

Vampire-Hunter-D-Not-Final-BD

In what seems like a drought of originality, not unlike Hollywood’s current fascination with sequels and reboots, Sentai Filmworks has announced that it will be re-dubbing one of the most beloved movies in anime history. That’s right, Vampire Hunter D is getting a new dub, but is keeping the same animation from 1985. What is the real kick in the dick is that the original dub will be nowhere to be found. The original cast had such a  great performance, it will be very surprising to see if the new cast can come anywhere close to where the old cast was.

To be fair, I would be happier if there was a project that was like the Evangelion reimagines, or Berserk. We would be the story broken down and expanded, with updated visuals. Instead, we’re going to get a lazy re-dub that is just like the recent Sailor Moon re-release. I understand that it may be excluded for legal reasons, but if you’re spending the money to get a license like Vampire Hunter D, make sure you’re getting everything.
