The Jack and Triumph Show is like Alf but nowhere near the budget…and that’s a good thing. Take one-part sitcom that has a pretty cool back story that provides ample ammo for episode ideas…ex-90s sitcom stars. The lift-off of most episodes is precisely this featuring Triumph trying some hair-brained scheme to make both him and Jack a bunch of money so they can move out of June’s house. Along the way, we get numerous cameo appearances from the decade’s best like Joey Fatone from N’Sync, Maury Povich, and The Dell Guy, with Fatone probably being my favorite as he’s clearly in on the jokes and was awesome enough to recreate N’Sync dance numbers and provide for fodder usually at the other end of Triumph’s insults.

As expected, the series is setup for Triumph to just unload insult after insult that some nights just doesn’t let up. Never safe are his cast mates, with June probably getting a good majority of the insults per episode, but Triumph goes in hard on all of his ‘friends’ and even more so when he does his ‘man on the street’ interviews. This part of the show was always my favorite, but later episodes saw a decline in that, however ‘Dog House’ did more of a comedy bit than an interview and it worked just fine. A slightly different style, but Triumph’s muscles show just the same. Jack isn’t exactly quiet neither. As a matter of fact, listen closely, and you can often hear a good amount of insults the only difference being is when Jack delivers them they sound wrapped up in sugar because you can’t imagine Jack being vindictive, so you just take them as you get them.

All in all, the first season of The Jack and Triumph Show was a resounding success. The cast is jam-packed top to bottom with comedy killers, the cameos are always the best, Triumph with a live mic is still solid gold, and Rob Smigel and Co. continue to write hysterical television that will help boost Adult Swim’s slate. For the last several years, Adult Swim has won ‘Best New Show of the Year’ awards with Rick and Morty and Mr. Pickles, and a three-peat looks like it could be already in the back this early in the game.
