Review: Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero “I’m Still Super! / Balls!”

Spoilers Below

 “I’m Still Super!

The guys head to Super Hero World where the heroes are acting like bad guys with the exception of Captain Super Captain. Turns out, his twin brother Professor Evil Professor has teamed up with Larry and Rippen and they have the means in which to turn heroes into villains. Rippen’s team captures Boone and Sashi while Penn has to save CSC. Penn returns to evil HQ where he opts to do battle with Rippen while CSC and PFP are going at it in battle. Penn has to chose between his friends lives or destroying Rippen, but when Penn saves Rippen, his usual adversary saves Penn’s friends from certain disaster and the heroes turn into heroes again.

Our Take

A worthy sequel to the premier episode and I like the idea of Penn Zero and friends revisiting a world and having that world grow with new characters like PFP. Adam West was hilarious as both hero and villain and I want to see a bunch more with him in it. We also have to wonder if Rippen is a good guy or not. We’ve seen hints that he may drop the bad guy gimmick, but nothing concrete at the moment. It’s just another reason to keep watching.

Balls!”

Penn and friends are balls in a world of balls while the villains are paddles and are on their way to wipe out the the balls community. It’s up to Penn, Sashi, and Boone to teach the citizens to defend themselves. These balls are pussies, so Penn has to inspire them to want to learn how to defend themselves. One of the balls falls into a river, but an 8-Ball goes in after him and saves it. After getting a bit of saving itself, the 8-ball and the other balls decide to join the fight against Rippen and his thugs. They run away, and Rippen grabs the 8-ball as a hostage, but a once removed bowling ball returns and saves the day.

Our Take

I think the producers of Penn Zero just wanted an episode where they can scream the word balls over and over again, and personally I thought it was great. The plot got a tad boring, and I couldn’t help but keep thinking Annoying Orange when seeing all of the characters (I think that show even had tennis ball characters), but overall an OK effort.
