English Dub Review: Durarara!!x2 “A Crow in the Dark Night”

Alright, so be forewarned. There is a lot of story going on this week, and it gets very confusing with the very non-linear way the story is told in Durarara!! fashion. Unfortunately, “A Crow in the Dark Night” was one of those times that having a linear story would have been very beneficial. Oh well, let’s try to digest some of this.

Shizuo and Tom and the girl who tried to kill Shizuo make their way to Shinra’s place, who was waiting for a decapitated Celty to return. Shinra keeps implying that Shizuo kidnapped the girl who tried to kill him, which only ends up pissing him off. The little girl ends up getting sick, so Shinra does the “doctorly” thing, and he takes care of her. Oh, and speaking of the girl, it turns out that she’s the daughter of a huge yakuza boss. Yeah, that’s only a little bit of trouble, right?

And there is where Celty and the Russians come in. The Russians were hired by a rival gang to kidnap the same kid that Celty was, except that the Russians were going to use her for a power move. That’s what led to the ending of last week’s episode. This Russian bitch sliced Celty’s otherworldly head / helmet right off her body, and it caused her a lot of pain. That’s a lot more than what everyone else has been able to do. The problem here is that they are thinking that Celty is a normal person. I sense revenge will be swift and fierce.

The major problem isn’t the story itself. It’s more along the lines of the presentation. Again, if I wanted a Quentin Tarrantino movie, I’d watch Pulp Fiction. The non-linear way of getting “A Crow in the Dark Night” out drove me up a wall. I was just hoping that there was something that was given more clearly. I was driven up a wall, and resorted to notetaking. I would have loved “A Crow in the Dark Night” a lot more if a notebook wasn’t necessary.
