Yoink! ‘The Simpsons’ Grab a Writers Guild Award

TV-Simpsons-Lego

Although there have been some definite ups and downs in The Simpsons‘ 25-year run, the Writers Guild is still willing to recognize a gem when they see one. The show’s LEGO-themed episode, “Brick Like Me,” written by Brian Kelley, took home the coveted animation award. Then again, of the six animation nominees, four were Simpsons episodes and two were Bob’s Burgers – so the competition wasn’t exactly stiff.

Despite criticisms that latter-day Simpsons installments regularly receive, this was an undeniably high-quality story, and was very much deserving of the accolades bestowed up on it. No surprise considering writers, more than anyone, can see past the bullshit that clouds the minds of all-too-many television viewers who would rather watch pseudo-reality TV than something that takes talent to create and produce.

Rant over.

Elsewhere in comedy, FX’s Louie grabbed a pair of awards, including best comedy series – and for film, best original screenplay went to The Grand Budapest Hotel & Wes Anderson.

The award for best fictional TV writing went to Brian Williams.
