Review: Major Lazer ‘Vampire Weekend’

 Spoilers Below

It’s vampire weekend, in that the downtown area is overrun by vampires. Some people decide to hide, but President White Wall heads to the bottom of the Earth to escape trouble. General Rubbish calls up an army of vampire hunters to help out.  Penny falls in for one of the Vegan Vampires named Ryland while everyone else is being terrorized outside. Eventually, Penny and her vampire boyfriend come across the destruction and come to the deduction that a Vampire-Vampire must’ve destroyed everything. The only way to stop this shit is if the two of them plus Major Lazer head to Transylvania and kill Ryland’s dad. Unfortunately, his dad tries to force his son to bite Penny, but he refuses. The vampire kills himself, and Major Lazer goes to work on Ryland’s dad using the power of the sun as the evil-doer’s undoing.

Ahhhh, I see what you did there Major Lazer producers. Name the episode ‘Vampire Weekend’ and have the bands lead singer Ezra Koenig as a guest star. I found it a little odd that the majority of our first episode of Major Lazer really didn’t have THAT much of the titular character, as he seems like a lot of fun. Seriously, Major (voiced by Triple A) and even General Rubbish look like rejects from the popular Cable/Bishop line of X-Men comics, and I’ll take it. The show features the out of control randomness that Axe Cop has, but probably better plots and dialogue. I don’t even like Twilight, but the Ryland/Penny plot  is probably what fans of Twilight would enjoy if they don’t take themselves too seriously when coming face-to-face with satire. Last, but not least, the Diplo produced soundtrack is rather fantastic, and this is coming from a guy whom cares very little for electronic music. But, it’s all about the package, and this show has a big one worth showing off.
