Viz media announced on Tuesday that it will premiere the first four episodes of their new English language dub of the original Sailor Moon series September 5th at 11pm EST.  Episodes 5-23 will be shown at 3am EST Sunday morning. The episodes will be shown on Neon Alley as well as Hulu.

Viz also announced it will host A Moonlight Party livestream event on it’s YouTube channel Friday night starting at 11pm EST. Viz staff will accept questions during the live stream on Facebook or with the hashtag #MoonlightParty on Twitter and answer the questions during the event. Prizes will also be awarded to participants during a trivia contest.

Sailor Moon originally premiered in Japan in 1992 and ran for 5 seasons, totaling 200 episodes. The franchise also produced 3 movies and several specials. DIC produced an English language version in the 1990’s using most of the first 2 seasons of the show. It had runs in both syndication and the USA network in the United States before gaining popularity on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block in the late 90’s. Eventually season 3 and 4 were also dubbed into English in the early 2000’s.

Viz announced in May that it had acquired the license for the entire Sailor Moon series as well as the current series Sailor Moon Crystal. The company went forward a brand new English voice dub of the series starring Stephanie Sheh as the voice of the titular Sailor Moon/Usagi Tsukino.
