Animated Upfronts 2014 Preview: TBS

TBS-Conan

It’s been over four years since TBS has tried on an original animated series in a first-run situation. Unfortunately, despite a rather stellar cast, Neighbors From Hell never really panned out when it premiered in 2004. Now, TBS tries to take on a more established series in American Dad. After 10 seasons, Seth MacFarlane’s American Dad moves to TBS from FOX later this year. Mike Barker told us ”it will be the same American Dad, just a different network”, but then Barker left and now we don’t know WHAT the fuck is going on.

There are so many questions with American Dad moving to TBS. Are we going to get increased cussing? Does Jeff come back? Do we further explore Roger’s home planet? All of these questions are just begging to be answered and TBS is risky enough to put everything on the line and provide answers. I’ve also never been fond of networks putting ONE animated show by itself on a lineup, but with already a die-hard fan base following it, maybe it won’t matter. Hopefully, if the series does well, TBS will explore the pick up of other animated television shows.
