Shorts Review: Minecraft: The N00b Adventures Part 22: The Good, The Bad, and the Hacker

Wait a second. Something doesn’t seem right here.

I came across Minecraft: The N00b Adventures, and I thought I’d be getting a Minecraft machinima. What I got was a pretty well animated episode, with characters and writing from what seemed like the most childish team I have seen. I mean, one of the characters names are Gaylord. Either he was a pitcher for the 1970’s San Diego Padres, or a 13 year old Minecraft player. Oh, and let’s not forget Fappington Manor, the house of Sir Gaylord and Milky_Dad.

Then it hit me like a Creeper. That’s what the show was about. This is your stereotypical after school teenagers playing Minecraft, taking role playing to a whole new level. You have the guy who is trying to create, while getting high (Milky_Dad) and the adventuring nit-wit, Gaylord.

In this episode, Gaylord gets bashed in by a ruffian.Milky_Dad tries to get him to try a new drink, but Gaylord gets even more pissed. Milky_Dad brings him to his new throne room, and all of Gaylord’s rage goes away. He seems content, especially with his nether portal. Gaylord wants to slay some innocents, so Milky_Dad gets some volunteers.

All of the deaths are shown just like in game, with terrible yellow text. Red Shirt001 and DreamerMike1 die. However, the dark one, Xx_Dark_PvP_Hacker_xX, manages to evade everything shot at him. The server is shown as a god, with muting powers. Dr. Dad goes nuts on him, because he hacks the game. Gaylord offers him a contract for three kills, and PvP accepts. The hacks are coming, and a Jedi senses them coming. Well, he’s as much of a Jedi as this show can have, anyway.

At first, I thought this show was just all over the place, to the point where the show suffered. But, like I said, this is a show of a server full of role-playing mega-nerds taking their creation to a whole new level. The show got a lot better with a second viewing, but the humor is still lacking. You get the seemingly prerequisite Star Trek and Star Wars nods, but even those are overplayed. This show can benefit from a refresh on their nerd culture references. You cannot be dated with a show like this.
