Review: Breadwinners ”Mine all Mine”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Buhd and Sway head in through the bread tunnel ala a mine shaft when a monster knocks the guys off track and unable to get back home. It’s here they end up in a man cave belonging to the Bread Maker. The maker gives this whole speech on how the Winners have to keep up the good fight when it comes to selling bread even if they want to stay and hang in the cave. The Bread Maker ends up putting them on a new mini-car with a golden toaster that acts as a sort of genie’s bottle, giving the Breadwinners a ‘one phone-call’ in case of emergency. Unfortunately, the guys end up abusing their newfound powers to the point where it actually annoys the shit out of the Bread Maker causing him to threaten action if the guys keep using the phone for personal use.

The Breadwinners head through the tunnel again, but they drop their toaster in a hot pool of whatever which leads to this mole that ends up stealing the toaster. Turns out this guy just wants to use the toaster to make toast! Buhd and Sway end up grabbing the toaster and take off, but get cornered. They try their best at activating the toaster again to summon the Bread Maker, but at first he totally ignores the request, but eventually, he shows up and kicks the shit out the mole.

Our Take

I think Breadwinners could be the first (along with Sanjay and Craig) to really bring Nickelodeon back into focus when it comes to cartoons. The series seems to carry some of the same great ingredients that make classic shows like Ren and Stimpy and Rocko’s Modern Life ingrained in our adult skulls for the rest of our lives. Ideas like having to get up to go to work in the morning and singing songs with our butts (some of us call those farts). Even the attitude around Nick is starting to get a bit edgier than it would have with more Avatar clones. With Cartoon Network vacating the 8 pm hour, I think shows like Breadwinners would work as an awesome replacement for new/original programming that is irreverent, snarky, and most of all fun. The animation looks GREAT, and although not nearly as detailed as the shows I mentioned before, the city’s vibrant colors and unique character designs show that Titmouse is probably the only studio that could have done this one right. The show is hysterical, and certainly worthy of your attention.
