Conan Introduces Punxsutawney Dr. Phil (and it’s a lot like a Howard Stern bit)

CONAN!!
CONAN!!

Recently Conan has introduced a new character to his late-night program and his name is Punxsutawney Dr. Phil. He is more or a less a stuffed amalgmation of the mythical Punxsutawney Phil of  Punxsutawney, PA and Dr. Phil.

For those that don’t know,  Punxsutawney Phil is part of a big deal in the small town of  Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania on Groundhog Day. Legend has it if Phil comes out of his hole, sees his shadow, and returns to his hole then we have six more weeks of winter. If Phil comes out of his hole, then it means Spring is on its way.

Dr. Phil on the other hand at one point was just one big bowl of SPAM molded to form something that looks almost human. This 400-pound beast usually has the nerve to go on TV and try to teach people about self-control to the same people who still think NASCAR is a real sport.

What the producers of Conan have done is taken these two ideas in what is a funny concept that sees  Punxsutawney Dr. Phil give advice about weird shit. Really though, it’s just recordings of his TV shows or books on tape that then get spliced up and used for dialogue. Howard Stern has been doing this same joke for 10 years and it’s usually funnier on his show because it’s dirtier and usually used on phony phone calls.

If I’m to be honest, I hope Triumph the Insult Comic Dog shows up one day and beats the shit out of  Punxsutawney Dr. Phil, because I think he’s a tad lame. Check out a clip below and let us know what you think in the comments.

PS I love Conan
