Review: Fish Hooks ‘Algae Day’; ‘Bea Saves a Tree’

Spoilers Below

‘Algae Day’

It’s Algae day and the Freshwater schools are closed! Unfortunately, no one wants to play with Milo in the algae so he goes off by himself. Eventually Milo runs into Dan and Anne whom look to be having a great time in the algae and he joins them in all of the fun. Milo is having so much fun that he convinces to twins to go with him and make the other kids jealous about all of the fun they are having. Unfortunately, Dan and Anne discover TV for the first time and right away they get HOOKED. Milo breaks up with his other ‘friends’ and takes off with the zombified twins who really want to watch more TV. Eventually, Bea and Oscar leave the house and find Milo getting thrashed by the twins so they have to sleigh down a mountain and jump a ramp to save them. This gets everyone to be friends again and now all is well.

I live and work in the NJ/NYC metro area and yea we’ve had a bunch of snow this year and Milo makes a good point that kids don’t go out and play in the snow much anymore, rather everyone just sits inside and watches TV or plays games. I love the twins here, and furthermore enjoy Milo’s stance on kids getting out and being active.

‘Bea Saves a Tree’

Bea is protecting a tree that is being threatened for demo in favor of new construction. Milo and Oscar join to help out and its here we listen to everyone tell their stories of their favorite memories with this particular tree. Bea’s parents, friends, and now Baldwin join the fracas. The construction dude threatens to knock down the plastic tree the second all of the kids leave and it looks as thought Shellsea really wants that to happen so that she and her friends can get a new mall. Shellsea actually does a good job of convincing Bea that maybe the mall is a good idea, but she quickly reaffirms her commitment to the cause and her new found fame. Shellsea and Bea decide to sneak in the middle of the night and grab the tree and leave it someplace else where no one else can find it. Unfortunately, Shellsea and Bea end up tossing the tree outside of the tank leading Kitty to grab it and shit all over it. The fish jump out of the tank and go after the cat to get back the tree, but that’s a big fucking pussy. Bea is able to come up with a way to trip up the cat and the fish are able to bring the fish back to where it was. Bea and Shellsea end up confessing their crimes and replant the tree. Shellsea takes the blame, but the congregation is still rather miffed. The construction dude cancels the mall build, but Bea convinces them to build in another place.

Since when did Bea become Lisa Simpson? This plot has been done a dozen times elsewhere, but I suppose the chase around the store was the difference maker. Still, not enough to warrant a great score.
