Wildseed Studios have commissioned six new comedy pilots for TV and online viewing, four of which are animated. Three shows are in production from the talent behind Cartoon Hangover’s Ace Discovery: Bristol animators Tom Gran and Martin Wooley, aka Spin Kick Bros. The pair will be producing pilots for Lone Wolves; a sitcom style show about tough guy bikers stuck in a house together, Rajesh Finesse; about a well to do Anglo-Indian bounder who gets in to scrapes with his mild mannered English Butler and Buck and Rick, a Western style revenge serial about unlikely twins on a mission to avenge the death of their mother.

Wildseed have also commissioned Astronauts, an adult animation based on the short by another Bristol based animator, Matthew Walker. The studio plan to expand the short into a series starring A-List American voice actors as the odd-couple astronauts who are stuck on a spaceship with a half-assed crew and psychopathic Robot whose “Kill Instinct has been almost-completely-suppressed”, at least, that what he tells the them.

Wildseed Studios began operations in June of this year with a mission statement to invest £10, 000 into 50 projects over 3 years. It’s heartening to see the studio is as happy to invest  time and money into animation as it is live action productions, the studio’s managing director,  Miles Bullough, is encouraging of all the proposed productions: “Our first 6 months has all been about rolling out our proposition to the creative community, We’ve had a really positive response to our offer and now, as well as maintaining the flow of new ideas coming into the company, we can ramp up our production pipeline and start setting up our distribution channels. It’s going to be a very busy and very exciting second six months for Wildseed.

As with all pilots, the fate of the animations will depend on many factors, audience reception and viewing figures being just a small part of their journey. The shows will be available across Wildseed’s digital platforms, including their YouTube channel, from early next year so the chances of them becoming series’ is much greater than if they were solely for television. As always, we will keep you up to speed with any news on the shows as and when it happens.
