The number 36 is weird to me so the fact that I got number 361 out of 500 issues of Trent, a limited edition first chapter novel from Dino Stamatopoulos (Moral Orel, Community) I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I got was a rather funny story that has Dino’s comedy stylings all over it.

Dino pitched this as Moral Orel-esque, but I didn’t get that. What I got was more, ‘What if the students of High School USA! graduated?’ because the soon-to-father named Bob has this dark as fuck attitude towards whether or not to have a baby with his young wife Doris whom looks about 8 and a half months pregnant. I’m actually reminded of a Louis C.K. joke where he does the But MAYBE??  bit where its absolutely terrible to think a certain way towards something, but it doesn’t mean we aren’t thinking it. Dino and Louis speaks to similar points here where every guy would LOVE a life with no kids. Think about it, who the fuck wants the responsibility? I know I don’t. So, why not an abortion OR maybe hoping the baby dies before it is born?

No one wants to think that way and Lord knows Dino’s been hearing it from all sorts of Christian groups as of late for his writing, but including shipping Trent cost me about $4 and I can’t think of a better way to spend it. Comic purists may complain about the lack of color, but I think that adds to the newspaper Funnies-esque charm that the presentation brings. The one gripe I had was that I felt the songs should have been saved for a potential series because its tough to get any sort of tonal enjoyment just seeing the lyrics in print with no notes, but overall Trent makes for a good and affordable buy. Get them now because there are ONLY 140 left!
