Review: Phineas and Ferb ‘Mind Share’

Phineas-and-Ferb-Season-3

Spoilers Below

Phineas and Ferb build a machine that swaps their minds with aliens from outer space. This leads to the kids being locked up in jail, and aliens being set loose throughout Danville.  With the boys in the slammer, they find the guy that knows how to get things, but he actually doesn’t get the things he just tells you where to get them. Turns out the guys have to traverse through some pretty nasty tunnels to escape and they get to a dumpster with all of the things they need.  The group goes back through the tunnel and return to prison so they can get back to their hometown where the aliens have already introduced themselves to Candace. Turns out the sister is actually a big help as she rounds up all of the aliens from a dance festival and brings them back home to Phineas and Ferb’s machine to do the re-swap.

Meanwhile, Perry glides over to Doof Inc to stop him from square-dancing. Turns out Doof created boots that makes him an awesome square-dancer. He takes Perry to a dance festival where Doof meets a lady on the dance floor. Its here that Candace rounds up the aliens and swaps them with the kids just in time for the machine to disappear before mom gets home. Also, the girl that Doof meets leaves him after seeing how he REALLY moves!

How did we get two Disney shows with mind swap plots?? Yea, I’m not sure either but both were a lot of fun for different reasons. The main plot with Phineas and Ferb was one of the funniest things the writers have ever done, crossing the show with a movie that has been out for the better part of 20 years making it perfect comedy for the whole family. Dan Povenmire probably knows all about spoofs having learned from his time on Family Guy so its no wonder that it turned out so great. Jaime Pressly as a potential new interest for Doof was OK, but I felt like we could have done without the Perry plot and instead just go full-throttle with the alien/PF mind swap. In any case, this week’s episode builds on an already strong season for Disney’s biggest money-making animated franchise that ISN’T a movie.
