Review: Gravity Falls ‘Carpet Diem’

Spoilers Below

After Candy and Grenda come over a sleepover with Mabel that leaves Dipper to sleep outside, the twins decide they need separate rooms. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there’s enough room at the shack to have the siblings in separate rooms, but all that changes when Soos stumbles onto a secret door that leads to a never before seen room. With both thinking this is the coolest room ever, the twins start arguing over who gets to sleep in it. Stan decides to use this to his advantage to stage a contest of whoever sucks up to him more gets the room!

But, there’s something strange about this room. Turns out THIS room has an Electron Carpet, and it works pretty similar to the fountain in the movie Change-Up with Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds. Basically, two living things stand on it, and if one is able to conjure up enough static electricity then you can have a switcheroo of the minds. So, in this case, Dipper activates the carpet and he switches bodies with Mabel. Obviously, the twins decide to use this to help their causes in landing the new room, with the twins both talking garbage to Stan to make the other one look bad. This takes a turn for the worse with Mabel(Dipper) who gets roped into another sleepover with her friends. With Mabel(Dipper) occupied, Dipper(Mabel) gets lassoed in to a man to man talk with Stan where he learns all about the birds and the bees and eventually earns the key to the new room!

Meanwhile, Waddles and Soos are chilling in the secret room and the pig decides to frolic on the Electron Carpet, causing it to switch bodies with Soos. So now, Soos acts like a pig and Waddles is a man trapped in a pig’s body. At first Soos thinks this is the greatest thing ever because he can run around down wallowing in mud. But eventually, Waddles looks to be fast food for Old Man McGucket as he gets chased around town by the old crazy man with a knife and fork. The chase leads back to the Shack where everyone is on the carpet switching bodies back and forth like crazy. Eventually, everyone gets their right body back, but Mabel and Dipper get the separate rooms. But, did they really want them?? In any case, Soos loses out on love.

At first I thought this week’s episode was going to be a blatant ripoff of The Change Up but thankfully the script was a hell of a lot better than that piece of shit. I will admit the switch over of the two voices for the twins was a tad confusing to follow and it only got more complicated during the climax when everyone was going nuts. But, how could you not love the pig/Soos crossover that SOMEHOW lead to the big guy getting hitched?? Seriously, I was hoping the writers would keep her mainly because I think it could make for great episodes in the future. Ohhhhh wellll! Dipper and Mabel were a lot of fun during their big tussle, as both delivered one-liners but the best one was when Dipper switched with Candy and she goes ‘”I’m a boy now! Wazzup bro! Let me grow some mustaches!” HA! Loved it, but none more than the Baby Fights that Stan was watching on TV. Idk, I just think that should be a thing now…
