DVD REVIEW: THE SIMPSONS ‘SEASON 15’

The Simpsons come out with its first home release in high-definition available on both DVD and Blu-Ray. But, is it worth the price of admission? Find out in this all new review after the jump.

When you’ve been on the air for what seems like a million years, one would think the producers and directors would be kind of miffed at having to do any kind of extra features BS to increase the value of the product. For example, very seldom do you see Matt Stone and Trey Parer from South Park or Seth MacFarlane from Family Guy do a ton with the home releases nowadays, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with The Simpsons.. Creator Matt Groening, Director David Silverman, and Exec Producer Al Jean all are the top guys over at Simpsons HQ, and every one of them are on this home release doing commentaries. Just having those names in this package is pretty cool, but then the producers take it up a notch and bring in some well-known personalities to help out like Michael Moore and the screenwriter of Catch Me If You Can, Jeff Nathanson, both of whom offer fabulous changes of pace and are usually pretty good at providing a chuckle or two.

In terms of the content, Season 15 was a highly underrated season for The Simpsons and brought along a number of now well-known classics like “Catch ‘Em If You Can’ that provided a more than justifiable spoof of Catch Me If You Can,  ‘Simple Simpson’ with Homer’s portrayal of “Pie Man”, and the always reliable Treehouse of Horror episode. As a whole, 20th Century FOX puts out a release that is not only vital to the Simpsons DVD collector, but also could serve as a way for fans that were once turned off by the long-running series by the oft-putting 12th Season. This release clearly shows that The Simpsons still have a lot of legs, and that the creators of the Simpsons still value their product a lot more than a bunch of their peers.  This is a great buy, and one that should definitely be on even the most jaded of Simpsons fans.
