REVIEW: FUGGET ABOUT IT “SEX ON ICE”

Spoilers Below

RCMP Special Agent Strait McCool was your ordinary, run-of-the-mill Mountie, a decorated officer with a reputation for solving homicides and other serious cases. But when he hears Jimmy Falcone is coming to town, he wants a demotion for a chance to work in witness protection. Although his superior objects the Mountie’s decision, McCool tries a trick he learned from the notorious New York gangster, and throws the senior Mountie out of a window – from the ground floor, setting in motion his demotion and new task of being the Falcone’s keeper. Just another of many quirky prologues Fugget About It has to offer.

When the Annual Regina Winter Carnival comes to town, Jimmy wants the task of running the tourism booth, seeing it as a week off work. When Jimmy is chosen for the task, Cookie sees it as a family outing. Gina sees it as a way to scam tourists and Theresa has aspirations to win the carnival’s beauty contest. It’s a win-win for everybody.

Meanwhile, Uncle Cheech believes Petey to be “artistic”, and wants to use him to count cards, like Dustin Hoffman’s autistic character in Rain Man. Petey is not oblivious to this and takes offense, giving viewers a “Fugget About It Cares” public service announcement. Either way, Cheech can be inept to things like this and always looks for scam where he can come out on top. They eventually make their way to the casino and the absent-minded uncle begins giving his nephew alcohol – in a sippy cup – to loosen him up. They eventually win big, but like any other story regarding scamming a casino, there are generally some consequences.

Elsewhere at the carnival, Jimmy comes across an ice sculptor and decides to give it a try himself. After discovering he has natural talent for ice picking ice, instead of people, like he did back home, he becomes an overnight sensation. After a hilarious diversion from the circling crowd (another Canadian stereotype, but I won’t give it away), McCool convinces Jimmy to wear a disguise and use a pseudonym (Jinksy), fearing his fame will reveal his whereabouts.

With Jimmy’s late hours, Cookie thinks he is cheating on her and after some words of wisdom from the Virgin Mary, who tells Cookie to go sleep around and win her man back through jealousy, she does just that. After meeting Jinksy at an art gallery, she is immediately attracted to the artist and Jimmy sees it as way to re-seduce his wife.

Let’s just say this week’s episode’s title “Sex on Ice” is simple and to the point. Jimmy’s talents evoke a nighttime event, parodying a boxing match; Jimmy is pitted in the ring against a giant block of ice. Rocky jokes ensue, including a reference to Dolph Lundgren’s Drago in Rocky IV, when Jimmy coldly tells the block of ice, “I must break you.”

Like every other establishment in the series, some of the scenes take place at locations named after notable Canadian icons. This week, Jimmy showcased his artwork at the Barenaked Ladies Gallery and the big ice-carving event was broadcasted from the Friendly Giant Arena.
