COMICS REVIEW: MAGGIE #1
Our Simpsons One-Shot Wonders continue with a special issue, featuring everyone’s favorite boss shooting, bear pacifying, mallet wielding, preschool rebellion leading, nail gun riveting, unibrow hating, infant language translating, Bobo cuddling baby, also known as the Gem Child, God’s chosen instrument of peace and goodwill to Springfield. MADISON AVENUE MAGGIE
A beautifully done story that starts off when Maggie gets picked to star in a new commercial for a line of pacifiers. Homer sees dollar signs, but when the cameras start rolling Maggie ends up not liking any of the other pacifiers than the one she already had and as such the gig doesn’t go through which leads us to hope Homer kept all of his receipts.
SCENT OF A BABY
Maggie can’t stand everyone smothering her over the baby scent almost to the point of Bart looking to bottle it to make bank. To fight back, Maggie grabs an onion and bites down on it hence making her smell like onions instead…which of course catches Homer’s nose! Mmmmmmm….Onion Rings!
GOODNIGHT BUFFOON
Turn on the record player and say goodnight to Springfield!
How is it that Springfield’s loudest family have the most adorable character in the history of animated television? Earlier this year Maggie Simpson starred in her own animated short which opened in front of the latest Ice Age movie with most critics(including this one) claiming it to being even better than the box office smash hit. And yet, for years Bongo has given us issues of comics that have Sergio Aragones typically contributing a “Maggie’s Crib” strip, including this one. But, not only are you getting the Crib strips, but Sergio offers up ‘Madison Avenue’ Maggie’ which kept all of the sweetness and charm that the shorts typically have with a script that doesn’t ruin that. Even better, ‘Scent of a Baby’ and ‘Goodnight Melody’ continue this practice giving us content that constantly reminds me why I do this….because of the genius. Bongo Comics has outdone themselves with Maggie #1 and I implore you to go out and buy this issue. Because, in a comics industry that constantly panders and beg the masses Maggie Simpson rises to the top, with her shiny red pacifier in tow, and outclasses them all.
Do we know if Hulu will be the only entity to have the dub, or if it will be on other platforms, too? The show in general is definitely going to be on multiple platforms.
