The twins uncover the truth about the town’s origins and realize everyone’s been deceived, so they set out to prove their findings.

It’s pioneer day! Everyone in town is celebrating when the town of Gravity Falls was founded and apparently its legal to marry woodpeckers??  Also, it turns out Pacifica Northwest is a relative of the town’s founder Nathaniel Northwest but all she can do is mock Mabel for not being serious enough.To help cheer her sister up, Dipper reads in his book that the Northwests may be a fraud as there may not be enough proof that Nathaniel founded the town. If Dipper is able to prove this theory, the Northwests will be seen as a fraud and Mabel can be seen as serious.

While at the local library, Mabel and Dipper find a map that leads them to the Gravity Falls Museum of History, but the cops are hot on their trail so they have to keep quiet. In the museum they discover a painting that has a heading going towards a statue in the cemetery, and after getting their noses picked by the statue an underground cavern reveals itself and is laden with ‘booby traps’.  Eventually, the kids stumble on to a document that proves that the Northwests were NOT the founder of Gravity Falls and that Quentin Trembley was! Before they can find out, the cops show up to spoil the party!

Actually, it turns out that Sheriff Blubbs happens to have a movie that explains why Trembley’s discovering of Gravity Falls is a national security matter. We actually learn that Trembley was once the President of the United States but after discovering Gravity Falls he threw himself off of a cliff. To help cover this up, the government named Northwest the founder and former President McKinley as his replacement. Worse yet, the cops were looking for the whereabouts of Trembley’s body which had been stuffed in these very same caverns but buried alive in block of peanut brittle. However, now that the kids know all this about Trembley, they are ordered by Blubbs to get on a train and head to Washington D.C. where they are NEVER coming back!!

The kids are stowed away in a box on the train with Trembley’s body which sounds all sorts of creepy. But, thankfully the peanut brittle gives way and Trembley is set free to help the kids(with the help of a woodpecker) escape from the box and soon the train. Eventually, Trembley assumes his role as President where he gives Dipper his key and names Mabel a Congressman. But, when Mabel has her chance to tell Northwest that her family is a shame, she decides not to so her brother does it instead.

For one, I like we are starting to get more episodes with characters I never thought we’d see again like Gideon and Pacifica Northwest, however I felt the plot of using a bunch of clues to find something has been done a bunch of times by everyone. However, Gravity Falls has a bunch of charm and the overall story was pretty legit as although it didn’t keep you guessing, it still kept the episode rather lively. I do wish we got a bit more out of the Uncle Stan b-plot with him locked up, but overall still a decent episode.
