COMICS REVIEW: LEGO NINJAGO “TOMB OF THE FANGPYRE”

Cole and his ninja team discover the secret nest of the evil Fangpyre – only to find out the shocking secrets of the Serpentine! Continuing the all-new Ninjago 2012 storylines with new villains and heroes.

Spoilers Below

The Sensei doesn’t feel the Ninjago respects the history of Spinjitsu nor their enemies and as such tells them to take part in a journey to find four pieces of stones so that they can reassemble the Serpentine Stone. Kai takes off by himself while the other three ninja search for the other stones. Eventually, Kai digs out a whole that leads him to a tomb where he gets into a battle with Fangtom which of course is no match for this master of spinjitsu! After the battle, Kai gets a load of this big huge stone in a snake head statue!

Meanwhile, Jay gets pulled down by a forest into an almost Amazonian wilderness where Fang-Suei and Snappa are already waiting to do battle. They get taken out quickly but not before they follow Jay into a pretty suspicious spot where another piece of the stone could be. Turns out Jay is in the right spot but not before this part of the jungle tries to destroy him! During the battle, Fang snatches the stone and hurls it across the forest but luckily Jay is able to hop on his jet and catch it before it drops out of sight.

Next we see Zane underwater and not long after pretty much comes face to face with a great white shark that chases him through the ocean depths. Luckily, Zane can keep his breath underwater for a long time and eventually finds the third stone but not before freezing the shark long enough for the white ninja to hit the shores.

Cole is driving into an abandoned Ninjago city where he comes in contact with an old friend..Lloyd Garmadon! Turns out Lloyd is looking for the stone too, but guess what?? So are the Serpentines, and as such a whole mess of the slithery warriors swoop in and try to stop the ninja from reaching their destination only to be thwarted…or did they? Eventually, Cole and Lloyd start digging a whole looking for the stone and find it but here comes Fangtom and a whole slew of Serpentine warriors to try and stop them. However, with the help of ninjitsu, the guys are able to grab the stone but are captured and brought to the Tomb of the Fangpyre.

Once there, they are told of what the snakes are really up to in terms of trying to get Lord Garmadon free and worse yet their plans to destroy Ninjago. That is until the rest of the ninjas show up and clean house

It was really neat seeing more of Garmadon’s back story unfold so from the story end of it this issue was a good ride. Together with the really, really well done action scenes “Tomb of the Fangpyre” makes a great buy. However, I just wish the story and setting were a bit more current with the animated series as we are way past Lloyd dressing up like his dad, granted this is obviously a prequel series I just think its just weird having to pretty much forget what transpired during the course of the show.
