GAME REVIEW: FAMILY GUY ONLINE

A browser based MMO based on the popular animated series.

I suppose the BEST time to come out with this free for all game featuring the Family Guy cast is only a few months before another Family Guy game comes out for PS3/XBOX 360 this fall. In any case FOX and FOX’s PR agency, IGN.com has been pushing this game quite a bit and with due course. Its a fun and most importantly free way to enjoy Family Guy humor whenever you want!! However for true game enthusiasts there are some flaws.

Family Guy Online is a pretty cut and dry premise certainly inspired by other terrible MMO games like World of Warcraft, for example you team up with players to complete various quests throughout Quahog whilst visiting popular hot spots like Spooner Street, the Griffin House, and of course the Drunken Clam. You can also do random funny shit like drop what seems to be giant fart clouds or disco balls to have impromptu parties with your online friends…I’m guessing a less socially awkward version of the doing the same thing in real life.  You can also fight in battles, collect cool items inspired by the show, and win achievements. From the start you get your choice of four different character classes with the chance of unlocking a Brian class. These classes are derived from the different Family Guy characters and each with their own set of skills. For example, Stewie has a bunch of gadgets whereas Lois can heal people…the idea being you create a clan of sorts to help you out along with your question with varying skill sets to help you through.

Overall, the game is decent for a spin or two. It has great graphics, funny dialogue, and a pretty cool world to explore. Unfortunately, the missions get rather boring after a while, usually feeding you the same quest over and over again with game play that always feels meh. Oh yea, and the number of fucking advertisements on this thing are absolutely maddening. For the casual crowd looking for a new Family Guy fix, go for it. The hardcore gamers who spend nights going off and doing guild quests with their WOW friends, this isn’t for you…but then again we don’t really want you anyway.
