REVIEW: UGLY AMERICANS “THE DORK KNIGHT”

Spoilers Below

Even an alternate take on NYC needs a superhero. And after getting bit by a pissed off bat with rabies, Mark gets new powers to help find and defeat crime but unfortunately he also takes the form of “Bat-Person”. In other words, take Spider-Man’s back story and mix it with a mutated Batman and you essentially get ‘Bat-Person’. Together with his new sidekick Koala-Man, the streets of NY have never been safer. Eventually,  Bat-person’s arch rival Sabrina finds out about Mark’s relationship with Callie . Since the streets are cleaned, Grimes decides to take up ballet, but while he is getting screamed at by Callie she gets kidnapped. Thankfully, Grimes hooks up Mark with a bunch of random gadgets to break into Sabrina’s hide out for an old school Batman inspired beat down that ends in Sabrina again taking off with Callie in a panel van.

While all of this is going on, Randall has a new pitch for a TV show called “Town Car Confessions” where he installs a secret camera in his limo and video tapes conversations he has with celebs. Everyone from Morgan Freeman, Christian Bale, and Michael Caine show up and provide for cordial conversation, that is until Mark calls Randall to help save Callie. Luckily they do, and Mark gets saved mainly because Koala-Man loves dick.

I always like when the Uglies do something away from the grain and this week was no different. The writers have been doing an awesome job all season long of trying to see how far they can go with this universe and I think the last few weeks we have definitely seen the fruits of their labor. Not just with the awesome guest stars(PS Janeane Garofalo was GREAT this week) but with crazy locations and as was the case this week with this tale of  an underground crime syndicate set to take over the city and as such the city gets a hero. Not the one it deserves but the one it needs(HA! see what I did there?) Having said all this, the B-plot was marred with terrible voice-over depictions of Morgan, Bale, and Caine who were involved with a story line that would have been better off a web short. Next week is the finale, see ya then!
