REVIEW: GOOD VIBES “SURF LEGEND”

Woodie loses a surf competition and worries that he’s lost his “stoke,” so the boys turn to Woodie’s surf hero, Duke Sanchez, for help conquering an infamous wave, which would bring Woodie’s “stoke” back.

Spoilers Below

A guy named Duke Lopez was apparently born from a mermaid and a big time surfer, hence giving us a surfing God. But, like all great myths and legends, no one knows what happened to him.  Sure enough, we learn all of this during a big surfing competition going on with all the kids in school, including defending champion Woodie, going up against Turk in losing fashion. Apparently, Woodie lost his ‘stoke’ which apparently is like his guiding force in life so Mondo talks him into surfing a HUGE tidal wave called the “Dunka Bunga” and they need to find the one guy whos actually surfed it before…Duke Lopez!  Turns out Duke used to be in a relationship with Ms. Teets in which she broke off so Mondo offers to get them back together in exchange for teaching Woodie how to conquer the massive wave. After a round of rugged training(and Duke’s old board shorts) Woodie is ready, but on the day of the big surf, Turk steals Woodie’s shorts, so he has to man-up and go at it with nothing but his confidence brewing inside of him.

Meanwhile, Woodie’s sister  Milan is pregnant, so Jeena is helping her out with the motions(like the piss test, puking, and figuring out who the dad is) because she doesn’t have any friends. And we can see why because she starts spreading rumors about Jeena in school.

A fitting season finale for Good Vibes, and was definitely the better of the two episodes that aired as it continues(by not acknowledging) the relationship between Jeena and Mondo. Also, the soundtrack was extra killer tonight, not sure why, but it worked for sure. However, the whole “we have a contest, so we need a teacher to make us better” plot line has been done and done(the movie Dodgeball came to mind, but that’s OK because that movie RULED!)
