Review: South Park “Last of the Meheecans”

Remember when you were a kid and played cops and robbers? Well this was kind of like that…except its a game of Texans vs the Mexicans and Cartman is the US Border Patrol agent. Me? I couldn’t run very fast so I was either a prisoner or a dead guy.

The boys play “Texans vs. Mexicans” at a sleepover hosted by Cartman. The rules of the game are simple where the “Mexicans” (led at first by Butters, and then Kyle) attempt to elude the “border patrol” (led by Cartman) and cross the border into Texas (Cartman’s backyard). Everyone does so except for Butters, who gets lost., but the rest of the kids don’t even notice.

While attempting to return home during a snowstorm, Butters gets hit by a car. The couple in the vehicle, take him to their home and employ him as a stereotypical Mexican servant named Mantequilla, giving him random jobs to perform such as cleaning windows and clearing the front lawn of leaves. However, the couple eventually leave Butters at a Mexican restaurant, believing that Butters needs to be with his “own kind” to be happy.

During the sleepover, Cartman realizes that Butters never returned and thus the game is not over. He notifies the other kids who are worried that he is dead, s they begin searching for their missing friend while Cartman and his crew resume protecting the backyard.

At the Mexican restaurant, Butters tells them about the game he was playing(for some reason they can understand him but Butters doesnt speak or recite Spanish).  Somehow, Butters convinces the Mexicans that the lives they lead are bullshit and convinces them to go back to Mexico.

The United States Border Patrol, now has a new mission…stop Mexicans from leaving the USA. Cartman signs up and and has the skill in stopping Mexicans, but one man can’t do it on his own. Butters, is now seen as a hero in Mexico and is credited with instilling a sense of national pride in the Mexican people. However, he wants to go back home to the states, only this time he has Cartman in the way.

Review: Overall a good episode with good political humor, Butters seems to have a knack at leading various groups and such. Couple of turn offs for me were the random cameo of Stan’s parents…was this a sign of things to come continuing the Stan story line? Or not? Because, other than this I am going to assume that they ended the Stan scenario all together and its just looking forward at this juncture.
