G’s Review: South Park “Broadway Bro Down”

For 30 minutes “On Broadway” adds fuel to the fire for the Marsh parents deserving their own spinoff show. Tell me you wouldn’t watch 30 minutes of the South Park boys followed by 30 minutes of Randy and Sharon Marsh. It would be Comedy Central’s best Wednesday night hour block since Chappelle left in 2005.

Spoilers Below!
Anyway, back to this week’s episode which every man young and old could relate to. The whole time I was reminded of “Medicinal Fried Chicken” for the sexual references, but instead of the obvious innuendo of Shake Weight the writers decided to unveil man’s secret reason for taking his wife/girlfriend to see a play: post-show blowjobs.
Hitting the episode from the top: the beginning part of Randy at work (I think this is the first time we’ve ever seen Randy actually at a job which is funny in itself being season 15) hailing Tim Tebow as the Broncos savior hit the nail on the head for anyone who has watched ESPN for more than 5 seconds in the last 2 weeks. Great timing.
From there the men start talking about watching this week’s football games, but surprisingly only Randy has dedicated his sacred Sunday to football. The rest of the guys are going to see Wicked because afterwards, like 6 points for a touchdown, they’re all going to get hummers from their wives. This sends Randy on an experiment and soon after he is flying Sharon to NYC for a whole weekend of broadway plays. New York City to him is heaven but once he returns to South Park it’s like he is trapped in a culture-less and more importantly theatre-less hell.
I don’t want to expose ALL of the jokes and spoil the entire episode so I’ll just leave with some random thoughts:
-The background theme of BROadway was comical genius and fit perfectly. Much respect for not taking the easy route of making fun of the directors for being artsy and elegant.
-The songs were memorable and easily quotable (Ok one more spoil. If “Splooge Drenched Blowjob Queen” ever comes to Broadway I look forward to getting tickets ASAP…mainly since The Book of Mormon has a year long waiting list. Hook me up on the promo!)
-Anytime vegans are made fun of is a good time
-Nice cameo of Spiderman and The Book of Mormon ending
