John “On The Spot” #6 of Animated Shows That Should Come Back

Growing up I was more of a MadTV kid then a SNL kid. Idk, I just thought the jokes were funnier because you usually didn’t have a shitty celebrity there to object to any humor that they may deem inappropriate. It was the cast that made the show great not a stupid pop star.  As such, one of my favorite actors of all time came from that show and would later go on to voice the lead character of “Neighbors From Hell”.

In the late 90s early ’00’s the guy that led the cast of MadTV was Will Sasso and rightfully so. Some of the bits I remember best with him include anything with Kenny Rogers, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Steven Seagal. Nothing like seeing Kenny Rogers toss a baseball bat in the air only to have it land on his head…by design.

When Will Sasso left MadTV, it was just as big a deal as Will Ferrell leaving SNL. Yes, he was that important. And since then, I’ve really been pulling for him to do shit on his own because I think he’s super funny and talented and deserves the recognition. Hence, when TBS announced that they were green lighting an animated show and it had Sasso in it, I was glued and I thought it was great. For those who don’t know Neighbors from Hell was a story about a family named The Hellmans who move to Houston, TX so they can stop a drill from reaching the Earth’s core.

Not only was Sasso great as Balthazor, but both Molly Shannon(Tina) and Patton Oswalt(Pazuzu) were equally as important in helping a show where the script wasn’t always there but the heart certainly was. The problem with the show was that it was on a network that bombs at everything it shows. Proof? Conan O’Brien. Here’s a guy who takes a wave of online support from his Coco campaign, which included a nationwide tour, and completely fucks it up. Have you seen the ratings for that show? They are tanking…why? Because, it’s on TBS and nothing good is on that channel.

To finish my point, if Neighbors From Hell came back it would have to be on Fox(who created the show) or Cartoon Network in order to get the proper following that it deserves. Here’s hoping it happens…
