Spike’s “Ren & Stimpy” Reboot Was So Bad It Still Ruins Pitches
Wow, this thing is deader than dead.
I’m sure TV executives get 1000s of pitches for shows every single day, and nowadays I’m sure a good lot of them are for reboots. You may remember in 2003, someone thought that it was a good idea to bring back Ren & Stimpy with the Adult Party Cartoon branding as part of the launch of Spike TV. The show was rightfully panned by critics and canceled after three episodes. Turns out, that pain is STILL felt by Paramount executives today.
In a recent interview, Bob Camp noted that he had pitched a Ren & Stimpy movie to Paramount Pictures, but that the Spike TV show was so bad that it’s still leaving a bad taste in the mouths of executives thereby destroying any chance that the franchise could return in any way shape or form. Note, this is Paramount Pictures, the same company that thought two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies with Megan Fox and the voice of Johnny Knoxville in the first one was a good idea, saying that Ren & Stimpy’s Adult Party Cartoon was horse shit and has ruined the franchise. THAT’S a tall order.
Spike TV’s gonna die soon, so let’s remember the other animated shows that were part of the network’s early run.
